ignition switch replacment 85 380 se

Hi all
i am about 90% sure that my ignition switch is bad(starter wont turn sometimes, fan wont come on sometimes, could this be why my sunroof and A/C dont work?) and i am going to replace it( the silver cap thing in back of the tumpler) i have a book on cluster removal and the 2 tools to pull the cluster and i will disconnect the negative battery cable.i cant seem to find any good info on what all is back there behind the dash. has anyone done this job? any tips or advice would be great

thanks
kenny

Start with the basics for the sunroof. You should check to see if the AC holds a charge. If it doesn't pass the dye test, it's most likely the AC Evaporator behind the dasboard. When was the last time your recharged it?

hi pinkflyod
thanks for the reply
i just got the car about a month ago,so i have never recharged the system i had read on ************** that if this switch goes bad it would keep your high amp acc. from coming on, which i noticed was what my fan was doing,
so i have decided to replace that switch and see what happens, i have a few months before A/C season starts here again

The switch can do it. Start with the switch and keep me updated.

replacing the ingnition switch also.

Cheers, I have a 87 300sdl, have the new part. Planning to to this weekend. But should check all relays too. When I trun the car off the engine stops but smoetimes the dash lights stay on ,, cycle the key on off a few times ends up tuning them off. Replacing the ignition switch is probably a good idea, but no garrentee that it is the root of the issue. Is there any relays that might be sticking on ? I do not have any diagrams of the circuts so any info would be appricated. Just did the low beams last week and it ended up being the big expensive relay,, after I had replaced the headlight switch :} ps sometimes when I close the door,, the lights go off also,,,
ty and cheers DD
