Correct fuel relay?

Mom complained that the engine on her 300E sometimes simply stopped running on the highway. By the time she got stopped, it would start again. It sounded like the fuel relay, so I ordered a new one. She has chassis number A626***, and the part number listed here (as well as about everywhere else) is 003-545-2405. When I changed it, the old one had part number 002-545-9205 and it only had three pins on the bottom row. The new one had four. When I removed the old one, I notice that the socket did not have a contact for that fourth pin. I also notice that the OVP was leaned against the back corner, so I straightened it. I got a flashlight and noticed that I could not mount the OVP in the bracket because the clip that it holds it on one side was missing. I slid the OVP bracket in the one clip that was still there and installed the new fuel relay. The car would not start. It had started 15 minutes before. I put in the old fuel relay, and it still would not start. I don't remember if I had installed a new OVP or just re-soldered the old one several years ago, so I ordered a new one. When I install the new OVP, should I use the new fuel relay or keep the old one? I didn't think to map the pin numbers and she lives 80 miles away, or I would see if the schematic makes it obvious what that extra pin is for.
