'86 230E electric window doesn't close all the way

In my Merc, the only window that still operates is the driver's side (front right).
Others stopped for one reason or another, which I didn't investigate yet.
But now the driver side is not fully closing and making a loud noise when it is couple of inches of fully closing.
Is this because of a worn regulator?
I did manage to get as far as unscrewing and dismantling the whole system but couldn't figure out how to get the mechanism off the glass and take it out of the chassis. (I didn't want to risk not being able to put it back together)
If I can figure this out, I'd like to inspect it and get a replacement regulator and put it in myself.
But I need some pointers from you guys.
Any help is much appreciated.
Cheers
Vedat

The regulator is deteched from the door, then the plastic sliding shoe can be slid out of it's track to disconnect it from the window. I would then recommend raising the window to the top by hand and using strong tape (what we call duct tape) on one side of the window, up and over the top of the window frame, and then tape on the opposite side of the glass, to keep it from falling down inside the door and breaking.

It has been awhile since I have worked on these, but I think the problem might be with where the sliding shoe attaches to the rest of the regulator.

I found the culprit. The teeth are worn on that regulator thingy.
Now, of to finding the right part.

You will probably have to replace the entire regulator, they are not sold as separate parts. The front regulators are sold without the motor, so that will swap over. Rear units are all once piece including the motor.

I found the part that is listed under 1986 300E. I would imagine it would be the right one to fit any W124 body in that year?
