anti-pinch protection w210

My 1999 E430 driver side rear window does not close completely using the "auto up" function. When I use the "auto up" function, the window will close completely and then back down about 2 inches. Is there any owner having the same problem?

Thanks

Press the window switch lightly until it starts the window up. After the window has reached the top, hold it for 4 seconds. This should re-learn the upward memory. If not, you may have a bind in the up mode.

I'm having the same problem on an '02 E55. The dealer has 1) resynchronized it with the shop computer. Lasted 2 days. 2) Replaced the window motor. Same problem occurred next day. What's left?

This problem has been there since the car was new. I just lived with it until the "A" service (13,000 miles!), but now I want it fixed. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The dealer did replaced my window regulator once. I still have this problem maybe once every 3 months.

I resychronize it by:
1: Open the window completely.
2: Press up (NOT AUTO UP) for 10 seconds after the window close

3: Press down (NOT AUTO DOWN) for 10 seconds after the window open.

That should work.

Thanks, but I've tried that and a couple of other synchronizing methods, but a few days later it's up to its old tricks. I thought I saw a post some time back (maybe in another forum) about a computer replacement that fixed it. Anyone know if there is a TSB addressing this problem?

Well, I had the car back to the dealer today. They called Mercedes Assistance for help. The upshot was that they determined the felt channel for the window was binding a little near the top. They trimmed some of the backing to relieve the pinch and that appears to have fixed it. I'll report back in a week whether or not it did.

Nope, that didn't do it. Still looking for ideas. I'm getting tired of shuttling the car over to the dealer. I think I'll just tell him to research a solution before I bring it in again. Otherwise, I'll just live with it and put on my survey that they weren't able to fix the problem.

It sounds like possibly a bad DCM, this is short for "door control module". There is one in each door. Not sure if there is a TSB on it, but they've had problems like this on various models where a new DCM was called for.

I have replaced several felt "run channels" for this problem.
You could also have a faulty DCM like Gilly said. It monitors the
amperage required to operate the window. If amps climb, the pinch protection kicks in.
I would pull the fuses for all windows and put a fluke meter in place of the fuse to check amperage. Check the draw of each window up and down and compare.
If your l/r window draws more power than the r/r, you have a binding run strip or bad regulator / motor.
If amperage draw is consitant, you may have a bad DCM.
Good luck.

Your shop should be able to figure this one out.

Doctor D:
I believe the DCM uses the "counter" system to determine blockage. That's what you do when you resynchronize the window is reset the "zero" point when closed. I don't think the amperage draw is what it's using, it just sees the counter slow or come to a stop. The only one with express opening/closing that comes to mind that is different is the latest style ML I know they did a little differently, can't remember what they did on that one.

I thought the DCM's were "updated" for this issue? I know the 208s were and I think the DCMs are the same.

Here's some added info. It does it when the car's been parked in the South Texas sun near noon. In the morning, everything seems OK.

I kinda know what you're talking about with the 208 chassis.
The later versions had an update, but this was on the version where when you open the door, the window is supposed to drop 1/4 inch or so. The first few years of the 208 didn't have this feature, there was no update on these, nor did they have the loosing synchronization problem like the later 208's.

Gilly, I was under the impression it used hall-effect counting to
operate the express feature but, used both counting and amperage for the window reversal in pinch protection.
I had a motor that pulled over 15 amps traveling up, it tripped
the pinch protection the entire way and could not be synched
until the motor was replaced with one that drew only 5amps.
just my 2 cents.
