oil nozzle in m103
Has any one tried to put the piston oil nozzles from the m104 engine in the m103 engine? If so did you just put a hole in the casting of the block?
Thanks, Colin |

I did not know the M104 had "piston" oilers. Does it squirt up under the piston like on the OM 617. Do you think the M103 needs the oil? Are you going to a turbo charger on it?

Yes, the oilers squirt up under the pistons. I don't know if they need them or not. The bottom is bulletproof from what I hear. I may add a turbo later. So thinking about adding them, just not sure.

I've done it to my longblock. I used 603 squirters because I liked the angle they spray at better than the 104 part. I had to cut an approx 10mm X 10mm notch in the piston skirts to clear the squirters.
I think that some blocks didn't get the machine work for the squirters and I don't know what years may or may not have it. You'll have to look in the block to see. If your block has the prep work then you will only need to drill a feed to the main galley for each squirter and thread the pre-drilled mounting hole. My experience with notching the pistons was frustrating. I made a pattern to cut the notches all the same only to find that the machine work in the block had a fair bit of variance. I ended up having to clearance each notch for the cyl it was going into.

hey duxthe1, did your get the piston balanced after cutting them? And why did you do the oil nozzles?

No, I didn't balance the pistons. There is only a few grams removed and nearly equal between them. I don't spin the engine much past 5k RPM either. I added them to help the pistons run cooler with the turbo. I am able to run 18-19 PSI on 91 octane pump gas.
FWIW, I also added a higher volume, higher pressure oil pump that I built from turbodiesel parts. Figuring that the combo of turbo and squirters would need the volume, and the higher pressure might allow the rod bearings to tolerate more abuse.
