89 CE Brake Pad replacement ?'s
 

Hello,

I'm getting ready to change my front and rear brake pads in my 300CE. I just took a look in the D.I.Y. section (my manual has not arrived yet...) and was wondering if anyone can tell me if there are any differences between mine and the 95 "E' they used in the example. Any tips would be appreceiated.

Also, Are the rear brakes similar?

should be very similar.

Remove pins, spread pistons, remove pads. replace pads. put spring clip and pins back in along with ABS sensors.

Rears should be very similar.

Dont forget to get the rotors turned, it only costs about $8 a rotor. Beleive me you should do this for the best break results. You can have this done at most parts stores.

I have heard mb rotors should not be turned....

I replaced mine for cheap, like $120.00 for the whole front. that was discs, pads, stop squeak and abs sensors...

discs were like $35.00 each I think. Ordered right from partsshop on this site.

As long as the discs are coming off I say buy new ones, cause the labor work is already there.

If there is no noticeable lip on the edge of the rotor, the discs should be fine. if there is a lip, I would suggest replacing them. I had discs with a lip eat through a set of pads in less than 10k miles.

I don't turn the rotors on my car because I don't think it is completely necessary and the rotors are so soft that they would be at minimum thickness after 1 set of pads and being turned.

I just leave the rotors alone and stick new pads on them when i put in new barkes, and put in new rotors every other set of pads. With the front rotors on my C280, they have already worn beyond minimum thickness with the 2nd set of pads on them still at 50% thickness. If they had been turned, I don't think they would make it through 2 sets of pads. That is just my opinion.

I appreciate all of the input. It always help to have some input before doing something for the 1st time.

I will have to disagree w/ you. I have just truned the rotors on my car and will be able to get at least 1 if not 2 more stest of pads out of them if I so wish.
And if you change your rotors every other set of pads then why not just have them turned after each set. The rotors are made to be turned, if you have any groves, waves in the rotors I would reccomend turning them.

I think we need at tech to chime in and see what he thinks.
