190E Spring Compressor Question
Can one use a conventional spring compressor when changing the front struts or should one only use the Mercedes design as with the W123?
|
The vast majority on the forum will advise against using any spring compressor except the ones designed for MB that fit inside of the spring with claims of catastrophic failure of the generic types leading to serious injury.

Changing the front struts on a 190E does not require the removal of the spring.

Yes, you do not need to remove or compress the springs to replace struts. I think there are 2 bolts that are 17mm plus a pinching bolt/nut, then the 22mm nut at the strut mount. Probably 20-30 minute job on each side. Also, the 2 17mm bolts should be replaced and also use thread locker with it.
