1987 300E Spark Plug Wires replacement interval?
Hello
I have a 1987 300E, how often should the spark plug wires be replaced? I have a slight miss that is really noticable at idle. I replaced the spark plugs and cap and rotor, the fuel injectors and seals were replaced about a year ago. What else should I check? I purchased the car in 2001 with 130,000 miles , I put about 70,000 miles since that time. The car just passed the 200,000 mile mark. In the time that I have owned the car the wires have not been replaced. Not sure when the previous owner changed them. A set of bosch wires is close to $100, I'd rather not through the $ at it unless I knew they needed to be replaced. Thanks |
I think generally 100,000 miles? They last a good long time.

Is it a consistent miss?

Get out your DMM and measure the resistance in the wires one probe on each end. Each wire will have a specified resistance stamped on it. If its pretty close it should be ok. If its way off, you know its time. And the obvious any arching or damage to the boot.
