722.3 Top bolt ARRRRRGGGGGG!!!!
Holy crap. Who's idea was that anyways? So, the only bolt left is that very top one right in the fricken center. I have 4 feet of extensions, tape, elbows, etc, I have been messing with it over and hour and I just can not get the tool on the bolt. Any other tricks here? Being on your back you can just reach the bolt itself with a little fancy body twisting etc. but then you can not reach the other end to feed the extensions correctly. I've used my foot, tried to use the end near the bolt itself but the extensions are just to heavy so there is no way to guide them correctly. I need a second set of hands here but nada. Seriously, I'm beginning to think I should just pull out the engine trans together to reach it. (something I CAN do by myself.) |
did you drop the exhaust? letting it hang from the rear bumper removes that lever it creates. that'll let the trans drop further and you can get to the bolt better. I use both hands, left on the socket, right on the gun-or ratchet. good luck, chuck.

those are a pain
Are you using a universal joint with your extensions. Definitely try to drop it more somehow. Everything should be unhooked even the speedo cable.
Which car is it? |
It's my 94 E320. M104 engine. Exhaust totally dropped, Drive shaft completely out. Everything disconnected but that one last bolt.... I'm reading I my try to jack up the front of the engine a little and see if can get any more clearance.

Got IT!
Now, have another question what is this called and how do I disconnect it. It's the only thing holding the trans in.... http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1371758739 |
DOh. Never mind. I got it. Trans is out and covered. Will be monday before I can take a look at it again.

Plan on replacing the shifter cable now lol. Hopefully not the entire cold start shifter unit...
Not sure what the goal is...but at BARE minimum please reseal front pump and replace the B3 reverse bands. But after doing it twice myself, you gotta raise the engine otherwise its really really difficult. |
I believe you would call that the upshift delay solenoid. The TV cable is the cable but the box is the upshift delay. You disconnect the cable up by the throttle linkage, if you are removing the trans. Or sometimes that needs to be replaced, I think it is easily done as a seperate item. But ultimately the TV cable needs to be disconnected to pull the trans, unless you are some sort of glutton for punishment.

Also, why would I want an Upshift delay in the first place? |
to warm up the engine faster.

So again, no point in it down here in GA. Maybe up north.. |
Not really to warm up the engine faster but to warm up the O2 sensors faster, it is an emissions thing, helps get the engine in to closed loop faster. You may or may not notice the upshifts taking place a little later when the engine is cold, this is what makes that happen.
