ATTENTION - MAINTENANCE TIP!!
In the past, the rubber boots on the rear axle drive shafts would crack and I would have to buy new ones and install them (hassle). Now, approximately once a month, I spray Mothers Protectant for Rubber and Vinyl on them (front and back - the back is not easy to get to) and so far this maintenance idea seems to be working well.

I do the same using Armoall,or No Touch, just spray and let drip dry

I can finally sleep again! I think this problem might be number 689 on my list of worries, then again iv'e only had to replace axle boots once in 25 years of owning a Mercedes.

I'm replacing a 30 year old boot today.Or I should say my mechanic.I'll do engine work, but not rusty CVC axles

My mechanic had it out in 30 mins.He took park to work to unpress shaft apart to slip boot on,and reparess it.I'm amazed after 30 years they are still tight to move.347,000 miles
