96 C280 Fuel Pump Degassing Hose?
Hi, there are three fuel hoses that are on the 96 C280 fuel pump. One on the high pressure discharge end and two on the suction end of the fuel pump. One is the main suction line with the fitting on tank end and the other hose goes back to the fuel tank and is referred to as a "degassing" hose in Mercedes lit. It needs to be replaced and cannot find a part number, size or any other information from the Mercedes dealer.
What is the function of this "degassing" hose and will the fuel tank need to be drained to replace? Hose size? Any info would be most appreciated. Thanks

Not sure about your specific car but degassing is generally a small bled line with a restriction that circulates a small amount of fuel back to the tank. Since air is less viscous that fuel,it will rapidly flow through the restriction.
You will get some fuel when the hose is disconnected but no way to tell if the tank will drain or not. Crimping off the suction hose would go a long way to reduce fuel loss. |

Thanks 97SL320, helps some but if other members have additional clarification on the specific use for the degassing line in this car it would be appreciated.
