I couldnt agree with you more about those wheels on the W126! As a matter of fact, I think Mike Tangas was gonna put them on his 560?

I was going to put the 129 rims on. However, once I rounded up a clean set I could not get them to fit. The 129 rims had a 34mm offset, and without spacers, the inner edge of the rim was in full contact with the rear sway bar, but they did clear the calipers. Once I couldn't get the rears to fit I didn't even bother trying to fir the front. I don't like using spacers and decided to locate a stock set of 25mm offset 126 rims.

Thumbs up

I am now in the first month of owning the '89 126 (560 SEL). The car really grows on you. I still have some work to do (the esthetics are near perfect, so it's all preventative/driveability). I am putting in new fuel injectors this weekend, and replacing the accumulator. I replaced the replaceables of the ignition system last weekend.

In terms of looks - I think this car should be 100% stock. I agree - the only improvement I'd make is the stereo. Out of curiosity I pulled the covers on the front door speakers just now, and found the foam in the covers falling apart. Don't know what I am going to do about that yet...

My rims aren't in the greatest shape, neither in looks or in balance. But I've decided whatever I do, it must be stock, so I'll look for new or refurbished replacements.

This is one classy car. Just the feel of the construction, the details in the hardware, is something else. This one has 98k miles on it, and the door mechanisms, as well as the trunk latches, are shiny and look like new. The woodwork shows no age, and the leather looks superb. No wonder so many people love the 126!

W 126 ROLLCALL

Here's my deezl. An awesome driving car! Motor has about 20k+ miles on it. Was in a semi-serious fender-bender in it's past life, but someone did a halfway decent job putting it back together. Previous owner did a bunch of work to the mechanicals, so I've mostly just been able to enjoy it.

Dentists car

dnthomas

Nice example, here goes my Kreskin routine, I am guessing 140,000 miles it belonged to a dentist but his wife drove it mostly. Dealer cared for and you paid $12,500.

Nice 560! I have the exact same rubber floor mats and they're perfect for the really crappy weather we get up here in Wisconsin.

Too bad about those phones, I inquried about getting service and no one will mess with the old analog units. Haven't taken mine out yet.

Enjoy!

rickg those are some awesome euro headlamps you have there. What kind are they and did they come with the city lights already installed? You should go for clear corners as well have them on my SD and they really clean the look up. I still need some euro headlamps to go with the.

HEY?

My friend has one of those phones in his 1991 Volvo 740GE, and he wants to get it turned on. Are you sure no company will hook it up, not even Mercedes or Volvo?

Thanks! They are Bosch units. To show what I knew up until a few months ago, I thought they were standard factory units when I bought the car. Then I caught a rock from one of the hundreds of gravel trucks that blow through our town every day. So I went down to the 'recycling yard' (A.K.A. the wrecking yard) to get a new headlight lens. They come out with this standard-looking headlight for $7.00, and I said "No, I've got a headlight like this one on your shelf up here."(That one turned out to be off a 560 SEC) So the guy went out and looked at my car. "Oh, you've got Euro headlights." So, $95.00 + tax later, I knew what I had.
Where did you get clear marker light lenses? That would look awesome.(Post a pic of yours if you have one)

Oops! I found a pic of your cruiser back on page 2 of this thread. I see Camowen has clear ones too. I need to replace both of my lights anyway as they both have small holes in them.

The shop I asked is well resprected and sells/installs high end car audio/video systems and they gave me a resounding "no". I haven't checked with the "chains", but am guessing I'd get the same response. I think there were some discussions of this topic in the audio forum -- and I never read of anyone getting service with those old Motorolas (essentially what they called "the bag phone").

All cellular networks are pretty much digital, so you have to get a tri-mode digital phone to use with pretty much any cell provider.

Besides, new phones are pretty much dirt cheap with a cellular plan, anyway. I got a Motorola V120C for $25 with a Verizon plan....300 hrs of standby battery power and great digital reception.

If anything, cell phones get outmoded even faster than personal computers these days. It's best just to pick up a new one.
