C36 Asr Dash Light

I'VE NOTICED THAT MY ASR DASH LIGHT DOES NOT LIGHT UP IF THE SYSTEM IS "DISABLED" OR IF IT IS WORKING FOR TRACION CONTROL, (ASR SYSTEM WORK JUST FINE) I'M WONDERING HOW TO GET TO THE LIGHT IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, I'M ASSUMING IT'S BURNT OUT. I'VE CHECKED ALL THE FUSES, AND ALL OF THE OTHER INDICATOR LIGHTS SEEM TO BE FINE. ALSO DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A GOOD TECH MANUAL FOR THE C36, OR AT LEAST A GOOD PRICE ON THE FACTORY BOOKS, OR IF THERE IS A TECH CD AVAILIBLE? THANKS

I would only suspect the lamp if it does not come on with the key in the run position before starting.

TIFOSI 03-20-2002 07:47 PM

THANKS FOR THE REPLY... BUT THE LAMP DOESN'T EVEN COME ON WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH, SO NO LUCK THERE EITHER...

Arthur Dalton 03-20-2002 07:49 PM

Then I would check the fuses . Then I would suspect the lamp itself.
Don't know which fuse off-hand, but there is a fuse map under the cover.

TIFOSI 03-20-2002 07:56 PM

I'VE LOOKED AT THE FUSES, AND ALL ARE GOOD (NOT THAT I COULDN'T HAVE MISSED ONE) BUT ALSO DIDN'T FIND ANY DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE ASR, JUST COMMON INSTRUMENT PANEL FUSE... HAVE CHECKED FUSES UNDER THE HOOD AND THOSE IN THE TRUNK AS WELL....

The lamp is suspect if it does not come on before start.
If it does not go out after start, then that is the indicator of ASR fault,
so I doubt that is the case.
Hold on and see if any more replies come in that may have seen this condition first-hand.....

Does light come on if you spin the tires on sand/slippery pavment???

TIFOSI 03-20-2002 08:35 PM

NOPE.... I'VE HAD THE CAR FOR ABOUT 8 MONTHS AND HAVE NEVER SEEN THE LIGHT COME ON, NOT EVER, NOT AT START UP, SHUT DOWN, SLIPPING, OR SLIDING. BEING IN MONTANA THIS TIME OF YEAR WITH THE SNOW AND ICE THE ASR GETS QUITE A WORK OUT, THANK GOD FOR BRIDGESTONE BLIZZAKS..... AND THANK GOD SUMMER IS COMING....

Arthur Dalton 03-20-2002 08:38 PM

Then suspect the indicator lamp as it is supposed to light when the ASR is in action....

HOW MIGHT ONE GAIN ACCESS TO THE ERRANT BULB/LAMP???

ItalianBenz 03-21-2002 12:21 AM

Lets Say the light is burned out. If your slipping say in the wet with the ASR on And Switch is off. You should feel the brakes being applied slightly. When you switch off your ASR button the yellow triange does not come at all? you could have a bad bulb?
It needs to be certain your feeling the the ASR work. Take a hard right hand turn somewhere just hammer the throttle around that turn. If you feel no resistance at all in drivablity then, you have something going on. Need to have it checked out.

TIFOSI 03-21-2002 12:29 AM

THANKS FOR THE REPLY.... I AM CERTAIN THAT THE ASR WORKS, JUST WAS OUT TONITE IN 6" OF SNOW AND VERY SLICK STREETS, AND ASR PROVED TO BE EXTREMELY VALUABLE. EASILY FELT THE ASR COME ON AND KEEP THE 276 HORSES IN LINE AND UNDER PERFECT CONTROL. DOES REPLACING THE LIGHT INVOLVE DISMANTLING MOST OF THE DASH/INSTRUMENTS, OR IS IT SOMEWHAT ACCESSIBLE? THANKS TO ALL AGAIN, ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED...

Might be time to pull the cluster. Could be the lamp is burned out, or possibly the PO removed the bulb so as not to be bothered by seeing the light come on everytime he spun the tires.

TIFOSI 03-21-2002 12:47 AM

CAN SOMEONE MAYBE GIVE ME A CONDENSED PROCEDURE FOR PULLING THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, OR GUIDE ME WHERE TO GET SOME INFO... THANKS

David C Klasse 03-21-2002 05:28 AM

There is plenty of information on instrument cluster removal... just do a search in the archives! The bulb is easily replaceable once the instrument cluster is removed. Search things like C220, C230, C280, 202 & instrument cluster or removal...

Good luck!

Generally, you need the two hooks to remove the instrument cluster that can be purchased at an MB dealer for a couple of bucks (I just remembered this.) :)
