There must be a relay somewhere. Do you have a wiring diagram? I can hear the relay clicking in my own DRL equipped cars somewhere behind the headlamp switch when they come on. But, mine work different, as they are off when I'm in park.

A dealer might be able to point you to the relay, without delay.

Don't think the dealer will help you. Here in Canada all vehicles after a certain date MUST be equipped with DRL. It is considered a safety issue by Canadian Govt. and I believe it is against the law to defeat them. Just thought I'd mention that.

USA part number for DRL relay

Do you have a part number for a United state relay for that
Canadian part number 016 545 74 32
Thanks

I would also like to how to defeat the DRL as well, I'm in the US but car is a Canadian model, hence the DRL... I have yet to find a wiring schematic for C36, Hope a 220/280 would be the same or at least similar enough to figure it out. On '97 C36 the parking lights are always on, and DRL's are off until car is put into gear. Also tail lights are part of the DRL system. Know most US DRL's are only tied into the head lights. Just some questions/info.... Thanks

there is a DRL module in the car.

I was reading up on it in the CD manual the other day for the W124.

It appears it plugs into the back of the gauges cluster through a bulb, and possibly some of the wiring.

These are for the 1995 E320 W124 Chassis car.

Removing N35 relay would remove DRL???

Would removing the relay in the right side foot well cancell DRL
from what we see in the pdf file

Notice to all electrical wizards out there

Sometime after 1992 the Canadian version of the module changed to the Norway version where it no no longer turned on the instrument lamps. It also means that the low beam of the headlamp remains off until the car is put in gear.

One thing the wiring diagram shows is that disabling the module is not a five minute job...it would seem to mean lots of wire splicing.

It would involve probably uninstalling the whole unit....

Nto just pulling a relay...

Thanks for the help Ashman....

That is a great CD, do you know if one is availible forthe C36???

Ashman 03-21-2002 09:41 PM

not sure, check with the partshop on this site..

Phil should be able to help you out with it. They aren't cheap, but well worth it..

I was able to repair my drivers seat headrest using the manual.

I was also able to do a lot of other work that I could not have done without it.

On a '97 Canadian C class the DRL can be disactivated by pulling a control unit attached to the harness of the headlight switch. The unit is about cigarette box size and could be found if you remove the knee panel under steering column and follow the wires from the back of light switch with attention to the metal cross-member under the dash. Pulling the box off brings the car to `normal' non-DRL condition.

Hope this helps.
