Repairing Panel Above Pedals

I have a W123 car and the last week or two the panel under the instrument cluster, the one that goes around the pedals, has been falling down. It looks like there are clips on the side closer to the driver, but at least one of them doesn't seem to latch, and the back supports don't look too hot. There is also some part that I can only compare in appearance to a computer hard drive, a rectangular metal case. I'm not sure if that is supposed to be mounted in some way, or if it is just dangling because it normally rests against the panel.

Okay, so is this an easy part to replace and install myself? If so, how? I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, so keep that in mind. Thanks for any help

Thanks for your help and offer of further assistance. I went to the dealer today, actually to pick up one of the grill hood release plastic pieces. I thought I'd ask in the service about the panel and an oil change.

Sure enough, they said it was the cruise control unit. The guy said the panel was actually fine, it just was popping down because of the weight of the CC unit. Said it'd be half hour of labor, $38 to fix it up. That's not much money, but if it is a simple job to mount that unit, I'd rather just do it myself.

Any chance you could provide instructions on how to reseat that CC unit up there? Thanks for any help
