E430 cold start
 

Does a 1998 E430 (113 engine) have a cold start mechanism or is it built into the ECU? My car starts very quickly but puts out smoke (probably overly rich) for two seconds on cold start.

It's all part of the programing, are you burning any oil? The early ones, especially if they didn't get Mobil 1 or other synthetic oil, are known for "keyholing" of the cylinders leading to olil consumption and smoke on start up. I saw some really bad ones back in the day.
