Learn me: trans differences
Sorry for the poor grammar;
I have a 93 300te 4matic and it appears to have a specific transmission; I've been wondering since 90-92 trans are prevalent what the actual difference is. Is it something hat could be updated while rebuilding it? Thanks! |
The 4-matic trans has an adaptor that directly mounts the transfer case where a normal trans has a tailshaft housing and yoke setup. The 4-m trans is also notched at the bellhousing to clear the front driveshaft. The internals are all pretty much the same, possibly excepting the rear output shaft as the 4-m output is a sun gear that mates with the t-case instead of a yoke.

I was asking more about the difference between 90-92 4matic and 93 4matic trans. All 300te 4matic but the 93 have the same part number. So is the difference something I can update?
