2005 E320 Headlamp Low Beam Out
Hi; I got a headlamp warning message, low beam; sure enough, when I checked, the low beam passenger side is out.
Any idea what the cost of replacement is? Far as I know this car has the standard lamp system. Is this a DIY? |
If its a non-HID lighting its just a normal halogen lamp. Open hood...find cover on back of headlight housing....remove...install new lamp, put cover back on....

Thought (hoped) this was so; I have not had one go out before.
At least it's not the expensive ones. Thanks a bunch! |
Ok, I got two new Sylvania bulbs and got to work.
Nothing to it but it was a ***** before I got finished. For one thing, the insulation on the wires to the lamp socket was brittle and started flaking off; liquid tape to the rescue. Also I dropped first a metal clip, then a bulb, and "down in there somewhere" it went. When will I ever learn? I finally fished everything out with a magnet. Then I could not get the drivers' side to click back into place. Finally I removed the coolant reservoir and got a better grip, then got it in there. Finished at last, and both low beams worked. No more messages. Dangit. |
Look on the bright side(PUN!!), you didn't have to pay anyone to do it. :D

You said it right!
I took her in to the dealer a few months back, with a coupon for a "bargain" 4-wheel alignment. Of course, they refused to do the alignment without changing the two upper ball joints. $545 but they did not have the ball joints in stock. Good; I'll be back next Friday with the new ball joints installed. I ordered the pair from a dealer (OEM) on-line, total cost $99 for the pair. Took me less than 1 hour to install them both, including jacking and removing the wheels, then putting it all back. Plus, I didn't see anything wrong with the old ones. Boy, $545 for that is some sweet money. You know why the "bargain" wheel alignment is one of the most profitable come-ons for a dealer: they 'find" all kinds of things wrong, and get a lot of business. |
