88 300SE questions

m103 has headgasket issues generally with oil intrusion into coolant. if car is cold when you go to see and you check the coolant res, listen for a hiss like opening a soda can and oil residue in the coolant bottle. i have two m103 powered 300se cars here and both have that problem. the '90 actually drove like that for 30k miles.

price would also dictate how through an inspection you'd want to do. if he's asking $1000 and it seems like it runs/drives well enough to last a year then it seems like a good bet vs. if he's asking $8k you might ant to have ALL the service records, and get a PPI

The M103 is not enough power to enjoy a W126...it requires diesel power or a V8, the M103 is always revving and is overworked in that chassis.

i didn't find that to be the case at all. my '90, even w/ a failing hg would chirp the tires shifting to 2nd....but it did have the 1st gear start so maybe it was "quicker"

thanks for the info I did check the coolant and it was nice and green and no oil residue, this car was owned by a doctor and must have been kept inside ,the original paint is beautiful and the interior is mint , the gas guage is not working and also the a/c I will research the a/cbut any ideas about the gas guage . I alo noticed a slight vibraton on the highway and thought it may be the steady bearing, the engine is fine and flies down the road with very minimal noise, thanks for the info
