sway bar bushings
I will be replacing my sway bar bushings this weekend because they are worn and making noise over bumps. The new bushings I have are different part numbers than the ones now on the sway bar:
old inner: 124 323 24 85 new inner: 124 323 56 85 old outer: 124 323 23 85 new outer: 124 323 49 85 The new bushings look more narrow, and don't seem to fit. Am I using the correct parts? Thanks, Blake |
What sort of car?

Sorry, It's an '86 300E. W124.
Thanks. BF. |
Blake,
I don't know about the specific numbers you give but I'd bet they're right, since they are clearly for a W124 and the 300E uses the smallest bushings of any W124. The numbers have changed most likely because the parts have been modified. When I redid mine, the new bushings had sort of a nylon-ish mesh on the inside diameter, unlike the originals, designed to keep them quieter longer. |
Blake, the new parts you referenced are the replaced by part numbers. The inner has had 2 new versions of the bushings. You've got the latest. Good luck.

Check your strut mounts
Check the strut mounts which mount to the frame. One of mine snapped at 200K Dealer parts guy said they go out all the time.
