Look here:
Pelican Mercedes-Benz Tech Article - Adjusting Your Mercedes Benz Parking Brake - 190E, W124, W126, W201, W123

The last pciture shows you where the front cable attaches with a bolt on the left side. You will have to create slack in that adjuster using the adjustment bolt.
Removing the pedal end should then not be a problem.
Did yours break?

Yes the cable broke. Looked at the "adjusting brake article"

NO Help.

I can figure out how to connect the ends, but I need help figuring how to run the cable. It runs along the top of the drive shaft and goes into a wall towards the front of the car. It looks like I would have to remove exhaust system / driveshaft / etc. to get to it. Does anyone know a shortcut

There are two bolts on the adjuster, one for attachment of the front cable, and one for slack adjustment. You need to slacken the adjuster, and then remove the attachment bolt. The cable will then be free on the bottom for removal. Of course, you have to undo it at the pedal too.
