Two Different Codes On My 94 E320
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THE OTHER DAY AND I PRESSED THE BUTTON BY THE LITTLE LED UNDER THE HOOD AND THE LED BLINKED 5 TIMES WHICH IM TOLD IS EGR.. OK .. WHEN I PRESSED IT AGAIN THE LIGHT BLINKED FOUR TIMES..(AIR INJECTION??)).. THE NEXT TIME IT BLINKED 5, THEN 4 AGAIN.. IS THIS THE NORMAL WAY FOR THE SYSTEM TO DISPLAY MULTIPLE CODES OR DO I HAVE A PROBLEM?? ALSO,, IF THE CODE 4 IM SEEING IS REAL.. WHAT MIGHT NEED TO BE DONE TO FIX IT?? ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APRECIATED/// THANKS

The EGR code is more than likely indicating that you have a plugged line from the EGR valve to the intake manifold. Do a search and there are instructions for testing and resolving it. It is a diyer job.
Not too sure about the 4 blink code. Yes, that is the way it works. |
CAPS LOCK Please....
Code #4 is Air Injection and I suspect that you have a bad vac. hose connection between the intake and the switch-over valves. Take the front, top cover off [ in front of valve cover] and trace the hose where it passes the front of the engine.. Both the egr and air pump SOVs are fed vac from a common line. If this leaks/cracked, etc, both codes will display. |
In the UK- and I guess much of Europe we don't get these diagnostic codes. They seem seriously useful.
Can the diagnostic plug be retro-fitted to Euro-Spec cars? Anyone Know? Or is it a new ECU and who knows what else? Thanks Barry W124 E200 Wagon 108,000 miles |
thanks
thank you for your excellent advice// i removed the cover on the front of my engine and found one small plastic vacume line disconnected.. pluged it back in and reset the codes.. hope they stay gone! benjay
