Question cylinder sleeve size ???

on my 300 DT2.5 1991.

I-ve taked the pistons off , the fourth one is broken.

the prob, is that the cylinder sleeve has a crack inside it.

question : could I replace just the broken "cylinder sleeve-piston" ?? my cy-sleeve are 86,6 mm and the pistons are 86,5 mm, is this normal.

piston Std 87,000 mm

thaks for your help.

You should be able to just replace that sleeve and piston (with rings) if the remaining cylinders/pistons are ok.

Unhappy

tanks a lot,

but what about dimensions 87,000 for a new piston, and my cylinder sleeve is only 86,6 ???

I was planning to change only the broken piston, In your opinion
what I'm exposed to if I don't change the craked sleeve, "the crack has triangular cheap and is about 1 mm˛".

Change the sleeve too. I think you will be wasting your time and $$Fr if you only change the piston.

NEVER replace only 1(one) sleeve!! Replace all of them & have them refitted to the pistons. The extra $250 or so is well worth this extra machine work.

I don't know how this is done in USA, but in France,
the engines' reconditionner refuse to refit seelves to used pistons.

and replacing the five pistons is about 1500 Euros.

I still have no indications on the diference between the Std pistons diameter and my sleeve's one.

used sleeve larger than a new piston, astonishing !!

MB Doc - would you recommend replacing all the pistons too or just the one that is bad? Thanks for setting me straight.

If the pistons are in good condition then we re-sleeve the block & install new rings on the "good" used pistons. The old and new pistons must weigh with-in 5 grams of each other.
Having the same clearance on all of the pistons is the most inportant thing for compression on a diesel engine.
