The CD manuals are great if you need a place to park your coffee cup. Not good for much else though.

You make me sick Woody
Well I went on that books4cars site, and they have all 3 manuals for my car. The chassis and body 2 volume set and the engine manual. They also had an A/C manual, but I don't think I could use that. The 2 chassis and engine cost together $240. So here are my questions: Should I wait around for a "deal" like lucky ol' Woody over here?! Or are these finds rare and I should just go ahead and buy these? And these will work fine for a euro car right? One other little thing, I found this "Introductory Service Manual" for 124s and 126s and for a few different engines published by Mercedes...is this worth anything? It looks like it is some sort of an overview.

Definitely works for the Euro. That's not a bad deal. My son just bought the service manual for a BMW 850, cost $130.

Go for it!!
Not many deals come around, because not many were bought. I have both the MB cd`s and the paper manuals{books4cars}. the manuals are much better. John |

Having had and used the 126 chassis manual for over two decades, I can say that I have yet to find something in the many manuals covered by the CD that wasn't in the CD. Stated otherwise, the CDs include the Engine manuals, Chassis manuals, owners manuals, maintenance manuals, Electrical troubleshooting manuals and climate control manuals for all years and versions. If one wanted one could print all those manuals from the CD and they would be complete with the latest suppliments (which isn't necessarily the case with the printed manuals - the first versions of the chassis manual were only one volume).
If one knows where the info exists the CDs provide everything, if one lets one fingers do the walking then the phone book edition definitely works best.

Good to know Steve. As a DIYer, I find some of the diagrams on the CD somewhat unclear. Are they same as in the books? I was tempted to plop down $150+ for the books, but your post made me reconsider.
Thanks! |

Me too. Here is one thing I thought of though...with the CDs, you obviously have to be at a computer. With the manuals, you can have it right there next to your car while you are working on it. It would seem to make things better. I don't know here, I am just speculating. The diagrams would be important to me too. Now I don't know what do buy anymore! Everything from CDs are only good for a place to put your coffee cup, to they are better

I like the cd because I can print out just the pages I need and take them out to the car, I don't have to fight with a big book plus when I spill oil or anitfreeze all over them I just through them away and print more....

When you print out the pages, how detailed or clear are the pictures?

When you actually see the pictures in the manuals, you will realize how BAD the pictures on the cd are! Given the choice between the cd for $100 and the books at $240, it's a no brainer. If you can see what you are getting, you should buy the manuals for the difference in price, even at $240.(double what my son paid for a service manual for 850 BMW).

Ok now...maybe someone can do this...
Someone who has the CDs, pick a TYPICAL pix from the CD and paste the pix in it's FULL resolution for everyone here to look at. What some people consider terrible might be perfectly acceptable to others...who knows. I'm in the same position right now. I want SOMETHING but I'm banging my head back and forth between the CDs and the manuals....I'd really like to see just how bad the pix on the CDs look myself before splurging for the paper manuals.
