Just got REAL factory manuals W126
 

Man, these factory manuals beat the cd by a country mile!! You can even understand the pictures and everything. Highly recommend them to everyone. The chassis manual is about as thick as a New York phone book(actually there are 2 of them).

I bought them from a person named Ray, who had his car wrecked, by a transmission shop tech during a road test. Unbelievable!! All three books(2 chassis manuals and 116-117 engine manual) all for $75 total. What a deal! Is this a great site or what?

They have manuals for a series of years for my car....Does MB make service manuals which are specific to only 1 year?

I'm glad you like the books! The books along with the great help from the folks on this forum helped me keep my car on the road.

When you say the books are better than the CDs, do you mean the actual MB CDs? There are many CDs out there from other companies so I was just wondering. Are these manuals readily available? Do I have to get one now or will they be for sale for a while?

CK42, The MB books are not year model specific but rather cover the run of the chassis. They do show break downs of production changes, something like: prior to 09/xx and after 09/xx or by unit number (last 6 of the VIN).

I find the CD's to be just as good as the book, except for some of the fine detail you get in print (I have both for the 108, only CD for the 126). The one draw back to the CD is that you can't sit in your favorite chair and thumb through it.

I've always had actual paper manuals and enjoy them...the CDs seem like they'd be nice for all the obvious computer type reasons.

Now...still wondering if there are DIFFERENT versions of the CDs. ie, one made by MB, others made by third party publishers which actually contain their own version of the manual.

The short answer is yes.

But only the MB manual is sure to have only correct info. Not saying the others will be incorrect, but there are manuals out there that don't have correct specs or procedures.

Just the CLEAR pictures themselves are worth it. Much more info and better format. I hated the cds!!

What irritates me about PDFs is that the artwork contained in them usually sux but that it is totally possible to HAVE nice clear pictures...

I find it frustrating not to be able to quite see what you're looking at. The best manuals I ever used was the Allison Transmission manuals for the very large vehicles like buses and trucks, etc. Unfortunately MB does not want you to be able to fix your own car. What are you to do when the information is not readily available or it is so expensive? I signed up for the alldatadiy.com recomended on this site recently and it" aint bad"! $25 for a year is very reasonable. Particularly impressed that they have info on rebuilding auto trans. Same problem though, can't see the pictures very well. GM has good manuals and they are cheap, but who wants to own one of those cars? I'd rather ride a bike!
