2002 E320 ABS/BAS/ESP faults and locked in park

While driving home tonight the 3 fault messages were displayed. I pulled off the road, placed the car in park, and turned the engine off and . When I restarted, messages remained and the gear selector was locked in park.

Car is home in my driveway via a tow. I tried to reset the ESP with a lock to lock movement of the steering column with KOEO. This did not help.

Any diagnostic help is appreciated.

Check the battery and alternator. One way is to use the diagnostic on the CC unit...

Check this PDF - value for #24 is the battery voltage.

i would consider replacing a low cost part which has a high degree of failure
and which occasionally results in the symptoms you describer: brake light
switch located beneath the dash...above the brake pedal. $20-30

Thanks for the tip. I will check the brake switch and report results.

Thanks - that was the required fix. Once I had the old brake light switch out I could see that it was sticking in the "plunger in" position and did not follow the brake pedal.

All fault messages are cleared.

Thank you again for your able assistance.

next time you get locked in park - you can use a pen to disengage the lever - its a little round window type thing in the selector gate. That way you can move the lever and get home driving the car.

helped a guy at my work parking lot with this same problem.

Rule of thumb is that if you hear a squeak whenever you push the brake pedal in these cars the brake switch is about to go out.

Brake Switch PN? The brake switch PN that is defined on the EPC Web site for my VIN is PN - A001 545 95 09. The defective part that I removed from the car is PN - A001-545 64 09.

Both parts look identical. What is the difference between these 2 parts?

Thanks again in advance.
