Unhappy White Fumes all day long in W124

I just bought a w124 230 E 86 model from my cousin and i discovered that it was always bringing out white fumes all day long. I thot it was because the car had been parked a long time so i did this 'Italian >>>>' tuff that i saw somewhere in this forum which was to floor the accelerator while stationary so as to blast out the smoke n all, but this did not stop the fumes .

now i am getting worried 'cuz i been driving the car for a 3 days now and no stop to the fumes? what do I do ? what can be causing this?

I need info as soon as possible, i am becoming a butt of jokes from my friends who are saying ' so much for joining the benz site eh?'

First guess with white fumes is usually anti-freeze -- confirm by smell

and by checking to see if the level of coolant is getting lower. If that's the case, it is quite likely that you have a head gasket problem to worry about, if not a cracked casting. I hope this doesn't create a crack in the solidarity of the family, too.

ladomani,

The Italian tuneup usually refers to a high-speed blast down the freeway, getting the engine up to operating temperature and rushing lots of fuel and air through it, unclogging whatever might be in the way, burning off carbon, evaporating any moisture in the crankcase, etc. Free revving your engine with no load applied is not a good idea.

It sounds like your car has a problem. It might be worth the money to have a technician diagnose what's wrong. Then you'll have the information you'll need to decide what to do next.

check the level of your brake fluid - if it keeps going low, the vacuum assist might be shot in the master cylinder, therefore brake fluid enters the system via the manifold ...

Have the coolant checked for exhaust gases, this will let you know if the head gasket is leaking. When I see white smoke on a warm engine, my bet is always the head gasket is blown.

One car I had (not a MB) had lots of white smoke out the exhaust that was also kind of sweet smelling - turned out top be a bad intake manifold letting antifreeze through to the pistons.

Thumbs up YEP FUMES FIXED

Hi all,
I just said i shld reply to all ur mails and say thanks for the assistance.

it was not the antifreeze , because i am in the tropics where coolants are more useful and the temps are never low enough to require anti-freeze.

On close inpection , i discovered the oil level going down , and the technician suspected valve seals so we opened up the engine On opening up the engine , we discovered the rings were shot and it wasnt just a valve seal problem . So we (well the mechanic) did more or less an engine overhaul Rings, valve seals , Head gaskets, plugs ,oil change etc and now i dont have any fumes at all, Engine back to new.

I was scared initially that the car would not be the same , but the mechanic was quite good and all i have noticed that was different from before now is a slight increase in engine temp , which the technician explains as being a result of the new engine components . He said they need a run-in period(thot that was necessary for brakepads and tyres only )

But thanks guys , my pals are biting their tongues for making fun of me earlier.

This site is the bomb.
