Remedy For Nasty Looking Defroster Grid
 

OK, I know this belongs in the interior section. But more people look at this section.

My 87 300D has an ugly defroster grid. I started with Windex and it didn't help. Tried denatured alcohol and it worked a little better, but there's still crappy looking spots all over.

Thinking of going to a mild abrasive like Bon Ami. Which does a wonderful job on the exterior glass. Nothing beats it for getting road grime off the windows.

But before I screw this up I was hoping for some input from those who have dealt with this before.

Any thoughts?

For nasty windows I have used toothpaste with a drill pad,cleaner wax,and rubbing compound.As long as wire is in the glass.If wire is outside of glass,I've used 100% store amonia

I started cleaning a small area using a paste made with Bon Ami
and water. Using a sponge and rubbing horizontally. Messy job.It cleaned 95% of the stuff off of the grid in that area. Looks pretty good. Not good as new. But acceptable.
I didn't think to try ammonia. I'll pick some up to check it out.

I pulled the rear shelf out to give me better access to the entire glass.
Going to see someone tomorrow about a dye job on the shelf and the fabric trim around the doors. Palomino.

yes bonami will work,my dad used Ajax on one of my cars cause I smoke,but now I use ammonia,with a wash cloth,then towel dry.I don't use paper towels as lately they have a oil on them.
