The Devil's in the Details
I love my "new" 500e (68k miles), but it is an expensive hobby. I have it currently at Laurel near Chicago, and my tab is at near 4k and climbing, to put it right. (I know that seems incredible, but Laurel Audi wanted $700 to replace the antenna on my '96 cab - I'll tackle that one with my $45 Hirshman.)
The little black "tab" on the left center ac vent is missing. For them to fix it would be $200, because the whole vent "must" be replaced. Anyone know if its possible to just pop one of those back on the metal tab? Where can I get one? BTW, I've used Motorwerks before - anyone had experience with dealers in the western 'burb's? Where is the most honest servce? |
Welcome aboard! Wish I could help you, but I've never had that vent apart...
Make sure you sign in with the vitals in the Hot Rods section-500E roll call Regards! |
Welcome,
Easy DIY Fix on the AC vent! Call Phil at PartsShop and see what they run, I think $200 is a little high. The metal tabs push in or pull out, I can't remember which one and then the left side of the unit will slide out. You need to detach the "adjusting screw" control wheel as well with a 4mm allen wrench. Just shine a flashlight in there and take a look in the upper right area of the control wheel. With tools and parts in hand, you should be done in 5 minutes including beer time. ;) Let us know if you have any further questions. Also, check out the "search" button in the upper right area of this page and type in Chicago in the search field and select "good MB Shops" in the select forum area, you should have at least 5 hits. |
