1987 260E transmission 722.409

Hello, does anyone have experience with older W124 leaking transmission? I would park the car and it would slowly leak (but continuously) until the floor is a puddle after a few weeks. So it appears to be continuously leaking a tiny amount over time. I can still drive it by topping up the fluids. But it's an annoying mess and the building parking authority is giving me a hassle.

Any idea what it is? Is it an easy fix from the outside or do I have to unzip the transmission.

You'll most likely be able to see what is leaking from under the car. Leak points can be:

The Oil Pan Gasket - if over torqued at the last change, or if the pan was used to bare the weight of the transmission during a repair.

The front or real seal where the transmission mates with the torque converter on the front or the rear flex disc.

The trans cooler lines

the drain plug.

Just haul under there and have a peak, maybe take a pic and some of the gents here will diagnose.

Oil pan gasket or front oil pump seal is gone.

Hope its the former...the later requires complete removal. Most likely its the pump seal though.
