'89 560SEL EZL 'R16' location?
I just picked up a Ca 560SEL 143K miles and have been going through it a little at a time. The car has been sitting in a garage since 2009. PO drove it around the block monthly but that's about it.
One of the items on the list to do was to check the ignition timing. I thought while I had the timing light out I'd play around with the value of R16 but I have not been able to find it. I was wondering if the Ca 560SEL had it located elsewhere. I'm looking next to the fusebox, is this where it would be found? Also, I am replacing the SLS accumulator spheres and wondered if there is a way to test the pump. I found the reservoir almost empty and am concerned the pump 'may' have run dry. It's not making any noise and I had a good return flow. Also, there was pressure on the lines when I loosened them from the spheres. No external leaks anywhere that I can see. So far, New FP relay Fixed the Climate control blower Repaired the center console wood, replaced one window switch Repairing the dash where someone stole the stereo Yet to do, Left rear window sliding bushing needs replacing Left axle half shaft inbound boot leaks... may just replace the halfshaft. Timing chain and guides. Although, I may just do the guides if the chain looks good. It may have been done already, engine is very quiet at start up. Sort out why the Hi beams are inop. I fear the combination switch is bad. Paint is good, interior very nice with the usual wear on the drivers bolster. Black/black! |

The resistor is usually attached to a wiring pigtail around the brake booster somewhere. Usually its wrapped in tape.

I can't run the engine at the moment. The hydraulic lines are open awaiting new SLS spheres. Thanks George! That PDF helps. |

Just had another look and R16 is not there. There is a plug with three brown wires in that location. One wire has a red stripe. It mates with a plug which has two wires leading off down into the darkness below. Puzzling.
