Ticking sound, louder under load, 2.3

I have checked the lifters for clearance and they seem fine. I know that there are different size washers that can be fitted to the lifter top to compensate for cam wear but I am not sure if this is my problem. Should I be looking somewhere else...

Let me know if there is anything you guys think I should look for while I am in there again

102 2.3 engine.

Thanks.
