92 400E raw gas smell
 

I have read all the search results for this item, but am coming up empty handed. I have a severe raw gas smell about 5-15 minutes after shutting the car off and will sometimes last all night. I have traced all the lines that I am able to see and there is no accumulation or puddling of fuel. I also read about the cold start valve, but I don't see one on my CD maual for this particular car.

Any suggestions as to where the cause may lie?

I have replaced a few fuel tanks in the 400E......I would suggest to pull out the inner carpet in the trunk to inspect.

IF this is the interior that smells.

Donnie, thank you for the reply, and I should have indicated, but it is mostly an exterior smell. I am able to smell fuel when I pull into the garage faintly, but typically not any other time. Mostly it just smells around the exterior of the car.

I will check the trunk's innner carpet.

I recently had the same exact problem with my 89 300E and it turned out to be the the EHA valve.
Not sure if this valve is on your 400?
Anyhow replaced the valve (137.00) easy DIY. Two bolts, two o-rings, done deal!
