Battery Disconnected '97 e320
 

I changed the battery in my 1997 E320,now the car wont start. It was fine before I changed the battery. Did I do something wrong? any help would be greatly appreciated

Do you have electrical power, it just won't start? or if the car is dead maybe the new battery is not charged or junk?

Why did you change the battery? Presuming the new battery's terminals are the same orientation as the old battery it's difficult to imagine why the engine will not start. Are you sure the new battery is fully charged? Do you hear any noise when you attempt to start the engine? That is ... does the starter motor click or crank the engine slowly?

maybe its like the other new Benz,which only a dealer can change the battery.If you buy a newer one do go to Wal Mart automotive,and buy the battery maintainer that plugs in cigarette lighter socket.It keeps vital computer commands from being erased.

Wow, they have figured a way to block indie shops and end users from changing the battery. Impressive

no kidding.I don't know how true this is,but I've heard of dealers simply putting a 9 volt battery in the cigarette lighter

The cigar lighter trick won't work on a W210 since the lighter socket goes dead when the key is off. However, connecting a 9v battery to the charging post in the engine bay will work to keep settings. Frankly, resetting the windows (express feature), radio and sunroof only takes a few seconds.

To the OP - Your 'new' battery must be too low ( < 12.0v) to convince the ECU to go to work. Take it back out and have it charged.

The real questions are. Why did you charge the battery? Does the car crank and not run or not crank?

Changing the battery in this car is a non issue and no there isn't something to block others from changing a battery. The 9V memory saver plug in during a change is just to prevent loss of radio/ clock and other settings.

I have a 97 E320 parts car that has survived sitting for 5 years without being run. With unsticking of the starter and fuel pump, it has survived dozens of battery changes over the past year without any memory saver. Install battery, turn key, motor runs.

I've does this to my sitting for 2 years 97 C280 with no ill effects ad well.

Ive been sick with flu like symptoms...RichardM98 nailed it.I charged the stinking battery and the car started....weird...it was turning over real strong so I thought the battery was good enough...I guess it requires a fully charged battery...Thanks Guys!
