Engine stalls when cold
On cold mornings my engine will stall when putting the transmission (722.6) in reverse, like dropping the clutch on a manual trans. It definitely seems trans.-related. If I go into D first for a few seconds, the engine struggles, but then smooths out, and reverse is then possible. Just checked the trans. fluid level at 80 deg. C and it's in between the min and max lines. Any ideas?

A few things come to mind.
Look for cracked vacuum hoses / bad motor mounts. ( especially the air intake between the air flow sensor and throttle body.) The engine rolls the other way in reverse and this might open a cracked hose. I'm not sure if it possible on the .6 but, some transmissions can apply the torque converter clutch in reverse / lower forward gears stalling the engine. When this occurs, it is a very hard bang when you move from neutral to any gear. |

Here is some food for thought?

Thanks MAVA for those articles. The symptoms described are exactly what I'm experiencing. Does this require replacement/rebuilding of just the TC or does the transmission itself have to be dealt with? I'm sure even just the TC is not cheap

It's my turn for this issue and I'm wondering if I can get through the winter with just a flush and new filter.
Has anyone else dealt with this problem? |
