m 103 oil consumption

Hi,
ý'm a w 124 300 e m 103 1986 euro owner. And the machine has
190 K miles on it. What is the average oil consumption for this engine? Thanks for your precious replies.

Tough question to answer without more information......

Lots of factors involved, such as how often have you changed your oil? Have you ever had valve seals and guides replaced?

If you have original seals and guides, and have changed oil often (every 3k miles) then one would expect to burn 1-2 quarts every 5k miles or so.

IF you are burning more than that, and/or you are seeing blue smoke from tailpipe, then it's time to change the seals/guides.

Good luck!

I just had my head redone, and am now at 178k miles. My car burns about a quart of Mobil 1 15W50 every 5k miles...I rarely add any, just change the oil! Before the head work, it consumed a quart every 2,500-3k miles

Oil consumption--M103 motor

I have a 1988 300E with 254,000 miles. Valve guides and seals were done once at 130,000 miles and once again at 244,000 miles. It burns NO oil whatsoever!

Aryza,

The early M103 engines had bad valve stem oil seals. If it is using a lot of oil, it is time to change them. With this many miles, you would be better served to do a valve job, replace valve guides and use the updated seals.

I would not do this without first doing a compression analysis to ensure that the cylinder/piston integrity warrants it.

Good luck,

oil consumption

Thanks for your replies.
I've got an original maintenance manuel for 86 300 e euro and it writes out there that avarage oil consumption for brand new m 103 engine is 1lt/1000 km. ???I repeat this info isin its original
maintenance manuel book.
Waiting for your comments:confused:

Let's see... If I converted that right it would be approx. a quart per 650 miles. Anything using that much oil has a problem!! Doesn't the manual also state that oil consumption should decrease as the engine "wears in"?
