Things I did

One of the first things I was copy the to my hard drive. If you're up to that thats what I suggest, it runs a lot faster.

Get everything to stop and leave the CD in the drive and use a file manager (like windows Explorer) and you'll see a directory called "pdf." Thats where all the good stuff is, but its just a list of numbered file names. If you have Adobe installed you can just click on each one and open it. I made my own list of what each file is, its a lot quicker than going through the intro each time. It goes around all the internet stuff, except I miss that great intro each time:mad:

For my shortcuts I just leave the disk in the drive. Using a file manager, in my case "file manager" :), access the E:drive, or what ever drive your CD is, look for IE icons with the name of your manual ie: 560SEL Shop..., M117 engine, Owners Manual etc. Simply right click and send it as a shortcut to the desktop. Now just leave the disk in the drive and double click on the appropriate icon on the desktop, no movie - no music - no wait. For the 108 manual I do like to listen to the intro music.

EDIT: My typo is fixed, Ouch!!!:o . Thanks for the heads up.

I spent about three hours stumbling through this last night and here's what I learned. I didn't have Shockwave so I found it on the cd directory and installed it. I also installed Acrobat 4.0. Everthing worked fine. The 124 rolling over the road, sound, everything. Didn't figure I needed Acrobat 3.0 any more so I removed it. While in the directory I saw the icons for the files and opened a few just to get the hang of it. I'm still an old fashioned guy though, so as I look up stuff I think I'll need, I print it and put it in a notebook. It will be nice to be able to take data to the car, get it greasy and throw it away. Then reprint it! What a concept. Can't thank you guys enough. That's what this forum is all about, the sharing of collective knowledge!! Now can someone recommend how often I should change my oil?;)

My wife bought me a book called "Windows for Dummies" but I couldn't make any sense out of it!:p :p :p

Don't feel bad - my wife got me a book titled "How to Read in English for Beginners" and I am still trying to figure out page 1.

Captain

Another tip: Note the adobe page number and write it on the printed pages, especially the ones you expect you might want to re-print, like if they get dirty. MB and Adobe page numbers are different. This way you can find the page quicker.

One of the nice things I like about it being on a computer is that you can search for specific stuff. But be careful, not all text has been "Adobied" as text that can be searched.

Maybe I should right a book "Windoes for REALLY stupid people":D
