126 chassis sliding roof problem

My 126 chassis has the slide back or pop up in rear variety. It functions fine except the left rear corner doesn't pop all the way up when closed. Ihave retimed it several times and can see no broken parts with the interior panel removed. Has anyone else had the same symptoms? I even dropped the headliner in the back to see if the 2 screws that hold the bowden cable to the chassis were loose.

Peter

There is a cross member that distributes the force from the actuator cable. You will probably find that it is bent. It bends in the middle where the cable attaches ot it. They bend when the roof ages and the lubrication gets stiff and the friction goes up. I was able to straignten mine but it promptly bent again. I ended replacing the thing.

Sliding roof

Dave,

Thanks for the input. I suspected that bar, because I can watch it tweak and hangup on another cross piece.

Yea they should not bend while in operation. The metal fatigues out and gets soft.
