Pricing 1980 MB450SLC
I've had such great luck with my 300E I'm loking to pick up another project car.
My friend (Dismantler) just picked up a 80, 450SLC which sat for four years at a service station because the tranny slipped. Car has about 78K on it and he wants $2500. I hear these beasts are built like a tank, how's the maintenance on these compares to 300E? Mike V |
The M103 is a lot easier to work on than an M117 in the tight quarters of an SLC. It doesn't require anything more than you're used to providing to your 300E. The suspension is simpler and probably easier to work on, but I don't know that for a fact.

I just bought an 80 450sl for just under $10K. It is in fabulous shape mechanically, interior and exterior. But like a lot of other 20 year old cars, it had to have some things done...new weatherstripping, a new top, new blower fan. When I started looking for a car, I knew I what I wanted to spend on a car and that I was going to have to spend a few grand to get some things done. I think it's a great car, rides better than some new ones, looks great, all the things you buy a Mercedes for. I had a guy in a red Beemer ask me if I wanted to trade! I love mine. Best of luck with yours if you but it. BOB

Can you share some pics with us? I've been looking for a 450SLC. I had a '76 that I loved, but had to get rid of it. I'll admit that they all drive a little differently, but mine was a dream to get on the highway, or turn corners around town. I think you will enjoy it.
