1984 190E 2.3: Gas gauge/Temp gauge just went out.
Just had the temp and fuel gauge quit on the 190e. I guessed it's a fuse or relay. Did a search, looks like the problem can be attributed to fuse #9 and sometimes brake light issues as well.
I've become veryyy weary of everythingg being different on 84 models. Fuse box cover is apparently not readable and I'm not with the car. Anyone got a fuse box layout diagram for an 84 190? Or a picture of the fuse box cover? Or knowledge to say whether 84's have a different fusebox layout than later models? I found a fusebox diagram in the FSM, but it only lists the fuse values, and not what their purpose is. Thanks! |

The first thing to do is move each fuse within it's holder by rotating it with your finger. A problem like yours will often be solved when you find a fuse that binding to the touch or spins freely.
Take one (new) fuse of each color and do it trial and error. As you take one out and put the new one in it's place check the dash guages. I'm guessing it's a white fuse that controls these guages so that may narrow your investigation somewhat. It's also reasonable to believe that as you replace a fuse if nothing changes then the fuse is probably good and will work equally as well in the next slot. It takes less than ten minutes to do this and help prevent future problems with fuses not making contact with their counterparts.
