722.9 7 speed tranny P0717 code
Anybody encounter this? Car has less than 63000 miles, transmission already done?
|
My brother had a 06 C230 Sport, so I familiar with the 722.9 and its issue. P0717 is the Input Sensor. Which is in the valve body.. So it makes it more expensive than it has to be. This was a known issue for the 722.9, but not every one was affected.

Just like Jake said it is more than likely a speed sensor on the conductor plate on top of the valve body. This error is common on the 722.6 and it happens around 100k to 200k miles.
If I were in your shoes, I would contact Sun Valley Transmission-they know what they are doing with Mercedes Transmissions, and they will probably fix your problem at a fraction of the cost than the dealer. Contact them. They are good honest people.. Sun Valley Mercedes Transmissions Martin |
Yes, Sun Valley is very reputable around the forums. I have seen your issue happen sometimes around as early as 40,000 miles. Disappointing it didn't make a recall. If you choose to have the dealer do it, it will cost total around $1800.00.

722.9 conductor plate replacement will run you ~$1400 at my dealership. Simple job if you know what you're doing. Potential nightmare if you don't.

Should i bring the car to the dealer or an independent MB mechanic? Car has an extended warranty. Any one have experience with extended warranties and transmission problems?

This issue is usually caused by the graphite deposits, so it makes it seem easy like a transmission flush will fix it. It doesn't though, so even if you change the fluid, you'll still have the valve body issue. Don't waste your money. Someone is selling a similar car privately and had this same issue. It cost them around $1500.00 to have it replaced. Also, when you have this replaced make sure they do the adaptions. If they don't that it'll be very quirky again. |

Thanks for all your input. Car is in the dealer right now. They forwarded the diagnosis to the insurance company. Hopefully everything works out.

Thankfully more independent shops are adept to do the work; and a lot are dedicated to rebuilding the valve body and conductor plate for other shops and (Advanced) DYIers. |
