Urgent -- M103 broken valve spring
Doing my head gasket and just spotted this luckily.
On a time and money constraint here -- Needs to be fixed by tomorrow. Can I just replace the single broken spring and have the car drive-able? Obviously if one has gone, the others might do in the future, but for both time-sake and fund limitations http://w124-zone.com/downloads/photo...alvespring.jpg What are my options here? |
Best to investigate them all - to check their heights as specified in FSM.
However if you need to gamble then you need to gamble. Just replace the spring - though make sure there isn't additional damage you haven't detected yet. Ideally the springs should all be the same. |
Just checked thoroughly the rest and they look ok.
Cannot get a spring anywhere including the dealers. Not a single spring anywhere in the west coast. Unbelievable. I'll have to junkyard it to get me by...no other option. |
Try a local machine shop that rebuilds the heads. They might have some. Ask your local Mercedes Benz independents and see if they have any in stock or old heads / engines laying around.

Haven't you torn down this engine before? Why does it seem like this engine is always under construction? :D How hard do you drive it?

I've got a 2.6L m103 sitting in my garage. The block/head are still intact. Let me know if you need anything

Going to the junkyard tomorrow and grabbing the best spring I can find. Should be ok. Thanks guys. |
