94 SL500 Crankshaft Position Sensor mount removal
 

I have a '94 SL500 and have determined that the crankshaft position sensor needs to be replaced. Tried to remove old sensor, but approximately half of it is broken off and still in the hole. Have tried to remove it, but access is difficult and decided that sensor mount will need to be removed. Seems that mount is bolted to engine, and one bolt is accessible but cannot find any sign of second bolt. See photo, accessible bolt is on left side, partially removed (flywheel visible above it) Puzzling, where is second bolt, or is it mounted in a different manner? Thanks!

Thanks for bad news. Will see if I can come up with any other option. A minor problem has turned into a major one.

Two shops also told me my SL500 transmission would have to be removed, but after an agonizing four hours, managed to drill out old CPS and replace with new one. Requires a flexible bit drill holder and skinny arms. Bad news is, it didn't solve the running problem. Exact same symptoms as before. Starts and runs fine from cold, hesitation and roughness starts after about ten minutes, and eventually car stalls and will not restart until about an hour later after cool down. Originally suspected Electronic Throttle Actuator, but some experts have said no. Stumped.

Replace the distributor caps and rotors, if that is not enough replace the ignition coils.

Check the engine coolant temperature sensor ( the one connected to the ECU ) and its wire connector if the car stalls due to running too rich when warm. Check for spark when car is in failed mode.

Yep, there are 2 bolts securing the bracket, one can only be removed after the transmission is moved back.
