I am sorry Paul, what I said was uncalled for. I think people should be at least made aware of what is goind on in the new digital age. If they do not object to tracking and that type of thing, that totally fine and cool. But I think many are unaware and would otherwise object to it and I guess I get a little impaitent, I shouldn't, towards anyone that I might percieve might be preventing readers from what can and does actually happen with networks nowadays.

Analog is alive and kicking

My analog MB phone in the 2001 E Class is still operational and I believe uses the roof antenna.

Analog phone still works

I don't know how it works, but the phone still makes and receives calls and all features work (phone book, caller ID, call waiting, call conferencing). It costs $10 a month for the extra line.

you must have a dealership change tele-aid to the new mbrace numbers if you want it to work. long ago when mbrace came out mercedes had a customer one claim and they would update all the old tele-aid to the new numbers. now i think you have to pay to have it done.

tele-aid causing engine wear and fault codes, now thats a new one

Disabling the SOS warning

With either system (TeleAid analog, digital, MBrace, etc) you can go in with the DAS (STAR) system and set the unit to "NOT PRESENT". It won't give you any messages at startup (I disabled it in my W220 because I hated the "SOS system not present" message for 3 seconds at every startup)

Dealers probably won't disable it for you but anyone with DAS like a good indy shop can do it.

Again, assuming you have a digital version or MBrace. No need to worry with TeleAid analog.

Hi Bhatt,

Can you tell me how to disable the SOS warning? I find it annoying--it is always displayed on my dashboard. I think, for this reason, my gear selector does not appear on the dashboard.

Your SOS warning is always displayed? It shouldn't be.

Mine said "Teleaid disabled" or something like that every time I started up the car, and it went away a few seconds later.

It was annoying so I disabled Teleaid using a STAR(DAS) system. I think it was in the instrument cluster where I set Teleaid to "not present" and it went away.

If yours is always displayed maybe it's telling you of an error?

Either way, I'm sure if you disable it with STAR(DAS) it will disable the entire Teleaid system and the error will go away. It doesn't use any other critical components of the car (it's pretty self contained with its own buttons, antennas, and even speakers are separate from the rest of the radio system)

So should probably not be an issue to disable. Find an indy shop with STAR and have them do it (unless you own a system yourself). I would guess no dealer will do it for you as it's a safety system.

Yes, it's always displayed as a "malfunction" on the multifunction display. So that's something that can only be disabled with a STAR (DAS) device? No fuse or something I can pull?

Do you know why the gear selection indicator isn't showing on said display? I have a 2001 C 240 and according to the owner's manual, on the far right side of the multifunction display, it should indicate what gear I am on (P R N D or gear number in manual override). But it doesn't
