gas mileage

This is a great site for info. I have just joined and enjoy all the expertise. My question is w the same why are the 126 models so bad on fuel? Cubic inch wise they are about the same c/i as small block chevy. Fuel injection should make it less thirsty on fuel.I understand they are heavy cars, but this car makes my ford expidition look like a economy car.
