1990-1992 M104s do in fact have a distributor. The 300SLs and the 300CE 90-92 got the M104 before everything else in 1993, and they have KE-jet. Which is why the EZL is a fortune, its specific to those two cars over 2.5 years of production.

Lee, the 104.980 engine in the 1991 and 1992 300CE's does have a distributor cap and rotor. It's the 104.992 engine in the 1995 E320 that has coil packs and no distributor cap and rotor.

Finally some updates on this,

Tested for Ohms at the crank sensor connector, I get an open circuit. Cranking the car over with it unplugged I still get an open circuit. This means to me the crank sensor is bad as some of you have suggested.

However that is strange is both terminals on the coil have around 11.7V at them with the car keyed on, when you crank the car over they both drop down to like 7V.

You are seeing voltage on the other side of the coil because the EZL didn't yet pull the negative side of the coil to ground. Seven V while cranking is very low, you should see 10.5 min. Check voltage at battery static and cranking. A lead acid 12V battery will show 12.66 full charge if you haven't charged it in the last few hours. Also, I've seen batteries that seem strong but check at 10V due to a shorted cell.

When checking the crank sensor, be sure to contact the inner and outer contacts on the plug, not one on plug and other to ground If testing while cranking, put the meter on AC volt scale, manual ranging 0 to ~ 10 V . You should see something like 2.5 V if this car follows most others.

I think the 7V is from our continued cranking on the car and taking measurements.

I measured the resistance in the crank sensor from the two surfaces inside the plug, not between the plug and chassis.

The battery is new.

EZL

I can't remember all the details, but I replaced a EZL on my 92 300ce. I did research and test. Finally, replaced for new EZL for $1K.
