W124 series trunk area lighting wiring
 

My 400E has started an odd behavior. When I open the trunk the trunk light goes on, as it should, but the odd part is that when I get the trunk hatch raised about ½ way, the rear license plate lights come on, and the inside light dims dramatically. Does anyone know where the wiring for these lights intersects?

Remove the covering on the trunk lid, and you should be able to follow the wiring into the trunk hinge on the left/drivers side. Wire often break from all the openings/closings, and its an easy job to reconnect/splice.
