high output alternator??
Im looking for a alternator for my 95 E320,, ive been looking around and seem to only find 115amp alt's,,
anyways, is there like other alternators that are the same or close to the same as bracket wise to where just change the pully to make it work? im looking for close to 200 amps atleast... will consider lower amperage alts |
What are you wanting to use the extra power for?
The 70 - 115 makes 70 at ~ 1,800 alt RPM and 115 at ~ 6500 RPM ( don't quote me on the RPM, I don't have the actual specs in front of me. ) The 60 - 120 makes less at "idle" and more up top. This style of alt is a Bosch IFIR ( internal Fan Internal Regulator ) and is used on other cars, ( SAAB , Audi VW and others. You might be able to get larger internals and swap into your case but that will require much research and trial. There was also a Valeo alt that I don't know much about in terms of power, near as {I can tell they are a compatible with the Bosch units. |
car stereo. the amp pulls just under 115 amps alone and the car has alot of normal draw.. the alt i have now is having issues with just the power windows at the moment

For the E320 you should be able to bolt up a 150A alternator. That's the biggest that I've seen that fits. Swap over the pulley for your original alternator.
I believe the M104 has same mounting provisions as the M103. I have a 143 and 150 installed in my 190E and 300D. You'll of course need to upgrade the wiring to the battery as the stock wiring is too small for the higher currents. 150AMP = 0101548302 What kind equipment are you running in the car--stereo wise? |

duel amp's :: Nakamichi :: running 4 WoofersEtc.com - SA-12 D4 - Sundown Audio 12" 600W Dual 4-Ohm SA Series Subwoofer all crammed in the back of the E320 lol... im going to take out 1 amp and 2 subs later. and put them in a dif rig |

lol your Nakamachi link just goes to their start page. 2400 watts eh? Could be a bit much? Doesn't the car begin to rattle and you get sheet metal sounds in your bass? Maybe sound deadened could help a bit. According to my one spreadsheet you need 230 amps to power that. Even running 0 awg wire you get 0.9 v drop over 12 feet. :O I've got 2x 500w rms 12" in my 300D. Powered by a PPI amp of some sort. Can't remember which. Its no competition/show system but its balanced. My 190E has all Boston Acoustics in it. PO put some high end 3 ways component systems in the front and nice ones in the back too. Three JBL amps power everything. |
Nothing like driving around in the tinnitus express. ..
95 should still have a belt driven air pump ( below the alt ). Pull the pump, install 2nd alt that matches the 1st one. I'd use a single adjustable external regulator running both alts so the load is shared. If one alt is running ahead of the other, that one will be overloaded. Here is another trick. Add a properly sized resistor across the control side of the regulator feed to the rotor. This will maintain a minimum charging level should the reg fail. The factory alt has a 180 ohm resistor across the reg to accomplish this. Your resistance may be different. Be sure the reg does not keep the rotor energized when the engine is not running. |
