I checked my car and it has the plastic style retainer. Both cars I saw at the junkyard today (89 and 90) had the plastic style as well.

I expect that 99.9 plus percent of W124/M103 chassis models have the new design plastic bushing/retainer since they were recalled, but it's a good idea to check to be sure.

But the W201 six-cylinder was NOT part of the recall even though they use the exact same original rubber part, so if you have a 190E 2.6, I highly recommend you remove the air cleaner to inspect.

It's likely that given the age and current mileage of most 190E 2.6 models, the original rubber part failed in the past and was replaced by the new design plastic part, but the five minutes it takes to check is certainly an ounce of prevention that may save you from being stranded on the road.

I put about 50K miles on my 190E 2.6 in the first four years. It has only accumulated another 33K miles in the last 22 years, but age and heat finally took their toll.

If anyone finds the original rubber part is still there, let us know.

When I went in for alignment, they replaced mine via recall. So head to the dealer and have them check no recalled items. They gave my original one back to me and said it was probably fine, but at least I know its done.
