torquing head by degrees of rotation vis-a-vis ft/lbs

Mercedes 2.2L, diesel with aluminum head,'84-'85....
Does anyone know what the equivalent ft/lbs of torque are for the two 90 degrees of rotation when torquing this head,i.e., what the final torque should be?
Thanks, jon

These are stretch bolts you have one initial torque and (2) 90 degree angle torques. Go by the specs dont double guess this. You always pull the 90 degree in order of the head bolt tightining specs and I always wait 10 minutes between each series of angle torques. Remember to lightly oil the threads on the bolts and I always install new ones when replacing head gasket. Make sure you clean the threads in the block good with carb or brake cleaner and have no liquids remaining in them before head installation.

In addition to euro 287's excellent advice, I would put a bit of oil on the underside of the head bolt where it contacts the head bolt washer. Oiling there will ensure that friction is not impeding the movement of the head bolt as you're turning it so that you get a true 90 degree turn so the bolt will stretch correctly.

Good Luck!
Tom
